Dark Lake 669 TNT Vape – Review
INTRODUCTION
At a time when the electronic cigarette sector is suffering not a little due to yet another new taxation decided by our government, it seems that the niche of inhalation liquids obtained by extracting the aroma through a distillation process, is on the contrary going through a good time and some sales success. In fact, this methodology allows the use organic e-liquids (mainly tobacco products in Italy) even on non-rebuildable systems, such as head coil atomizers or pod mod systems. Natural tobacco extracts finally come out of a microcosm studded only with tobacco lovers and begin to appeal to a much larger and more numerous audience.
Even the well-known Lombard manufacturer TNT Vape, of which we know productions of undoubted quality, such as the legendary e-liquid Booms but also the most recent Blonde, fresh winner of The Flavourist award as best classic tobacco liquid of 2020, has recently inaugurated its first line of distillate e-juices, the Crystal Mix line.
Crystal Mix is a line of three 20ml shot flavors packaged in 60ml bottles; to the aroma it will be necessary to add a neutral base of 40 ml to obtain the e-liquid ready to vape (the manufacturer recommends adding a base consisting of 30 ml of VG and 10 of PG).
Before starting with the review of the first e-liquid of this line, Dark Lake 669, we report the introduction words that TNT provides on its first distillate line: “This line was created after more than a year of research and development in order to offer you unprecedented aromatic experience. In addition to raw materials of unparalleled value, we have developed a completely innovative aroma extraction system that will allow you tobacco lovers not to have to replace coils, cotton or headcoils for over 100ml of vaped product.
The products we have obtained speak … CLEAR! Our almost ten-year love for tobacco forced us to wait until the result was as similar as possible to the use of traditional tobacco macerates and today we are here to present the new Mixture line! “
DARK LAKE 669 – DESCRIPTION
As mentioned earlier, let’s start our reviews of the Crystal Mix line by TNT Vape, with the Dark Lake 669 aroma, officially described as follows:
TNT VAPE in this mixture has decided to be inspired by the works of the Brissago cigar factory. Specifically to their narrow and short cigarillos, wrapped with the best Kentucky tobacco, smoked and selected from growers in the Springfield region of Tennessee. The name is no coincidence: Brissago is located on Lake Maggiore, on the Italian-Swiss border and we wanted to dedicate Mixture n ° 669 to this wonder of nature.
You will find a full-bodied and smoky Kentucky with a darker than normal note, inspired by the depths of the lake in winter, where only a good draw of Syrian Latakia is able to accompany us. A blend suitable for an evening post brandy and worthy of the finest palates.
SMELL TEST
Fascinated and intrigued by the description of Dark Lake 669, I start the smell test and I immediately perceive an aroma that, beyond its evident transparency, reveals to my nose a rather marked smell of damp leather that penetrates my nostrils with a good incisiveness. To the nasal test this Mixture n. 669, shows a certain character, even if it is not characterized by the smoky scents that one would expect to find in a Kentucky fire cured e-liquid.
Will the vape proof be able to transform the moist smell sensations into a more articulated complex of flavors with the typical body of Kentucky tobacco? Or is there something else to expect from this Dark Lake 669, also by virtue of its being inspired by the cigars of the Brissago factory?
VAPE TEST
Devices: Vaporesso Luxe PM40 0.8 coil + Penodat V2 MTL RTA
For the tasting of this TNT Vape aroma, I relied as usual with distilled products, to two very different devices, a pod mod precisely, the Luxe PM40 by Vaporesso and the turkish atomizer Penodat V2 regenerative with its long and narrow chimney.
On vape Dark Lake 669 takes on tones that are certainly more full-bodied than the smell perceptions and on inspiration I perceive a light smoky background that faces the palate with modest intensity. In fact, I notice that the smoky note, the unmistakable trace of a Kentucky fire cured, seems a bit trapped and dampened by that damp leather frame felt during the smell test. A sweetish scent that clings to the darker and harder nuances of Kentucky, tracing a more composed and less intrusive aromatic score.
All the bitter and burnt wood notes typical of a Tuscan cigar, find it hard to emerge; here, on the contrary, the bouquet unfolds on a more linear path, perhaps more reassuring, certainly more sinuous. The roundness of taste of Dark Lake 669 manifests itself even more clearly in the heart of the puff, releasing hints of leather enriched by sweet notes, vanilla in some situations, with hints of chocolate a moment later.
The characteristic smoke of Kentucky, on the other hand, is just a halo that surrounds and supports the entire aromatic structure. And if this were precisely the peculiarity of Brissago cigars? I recognize that I have never tried one in my past as a smoker, and therefore I took care to find information about it to better understand its characteristics and sensations in smoking.
I found that the original “Brissago” are the Swiss version of the Austrian Virginier cigars. The Virginier is a cigar of ancient tradition, with a very elongated and thin shape, with a sort of mouthpiece made with a straw and with a esparto thread that runs along the entire length of the cigar (to be removed before smoking).
The Virginia tobacco used to package these cigars was also grown and produced in the Habsburg lands of Italy, and was a dark and fermented tobacco. The flavor of these cigars was quite strong and apparently also appreciated by the smokers of the Tuscan cigar. Returning to the “Brissago” it seems that instead they are packed with Virginia filling and North American Kentucky band, and when smoked, I still read that they are rather lovable cigars with a slight hint of Kentucky.
It will be a coincidence but what I read on the “Brissago” I seem to find on vape of Dark Lake 669, with the probable presence of a Virginia capable of taming the roughness of Kentucky. Only in the tail the Kentucky returns to be more present and the puff summarizes more decisive tones up to the exhalation able to better reproduce the smoky scents of this tobacco.
DARK LAKE 669 FINAL VERDICT
Dark Lake 669 is a distilled tobacco which, while presenting itself on paper as a dark mixture, turns out to be less intense than one might expect. It is a tobacco with a good body and at the same time very pleasant and suitable for a rather large audience of vapers. Dark Lake 669 does not dissatisfy anyone, it can be vaped with satisfaction all day and its aromatic structure puts all palates in agreement.
