Vaporesso Xtra: compactness and elegance at your fingertips

Today I have in my hands one of the latest creations by Vaporesso, a Chinese company that needs no introduction, one of the most active and avant-garde in the market for vaping hardware systems and especially in the entry-level product segment. I am going to test and try for you, the Xtra pod mod, a device that since opening the package immediately appears small, compact and easy to handle.

As usual, at the article beginning we observe the contents of the product packaging received.

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

If there is one thing that has never been missing in Vaporesso’s productions, it is without a doubt its creativity and the ability to present always innovative and often daring aesthetic solutions on the market. Even the Xtra is no exception, because it presents itself with a new and captivating asymmetric aesthetic line. The mod has very sinuous rounded corners with a double finish: shiny metal in the thicker part and woven texture in the slim one. The aesthetic result is very pleasant, modern and incredibly elegant. Vaporesso accustomed us to high-quality manufactures for their first-class design, and in fact Xtra is no different, showing a construction quality that is certainly high-end. The device is light but at the same time conveys an undoubted sensation of robustness and solidity, as well as being treated in every detail.

FEATURES

The Vaporesso Xtra measures 73.9 mm in height, is 38.2 mm wide and 16.7 mm thick; also thanks to a weight of only 68.5 grams, the mod possesses truly enviable portability and pocketability.

The battery of the device is integrated and has a capacity of 900 mAh, and is well proportioned to the vaping powers for which it is intended. Charging is done via a USB port with an indicator light (next to the USB port) that flashes red during charging, and then turns solid green when charging is complete (about 30-40 minutes). The mod is equipped with two new pods: a Meshed Unipod with a resistive value of 0.8 ohm for a vape at 16 watts, and a 1.2 ohm Unipod with which the power is fixed at 11 watts.

The Vaporesso Xtra is a draw-activated pod mod and therefore it is devoid of any type of display or function button; the only button, located under the base of the mod, performs the function of turning on/off (five close clicks) and checking the battery status (one click). Even during supply, the LED light turns on to indicate the battery charge status through three different colors: green light charged between 100% and 70%, blue light 70% -30% charge, red light remaining charge 30 % -0%.

The device has been specifically designed for entry level users; the automatic draw, a fixed airflow system and the absence of any customization function prove it beyond any reasonable doubt. Xtra is a ready-to-vape device that does not renounce the canonical protection functions now present on almost all the vape electronic devices.

The Xtra cartridges do not have replaceable head coils and are anchored on the mod thanks to two powerful magnets, that prevent any type of minimum and annoying movement. The mouthpiece, whose vape hole is integrated (about 5 mm in diameter), has an ergonomic shape that pleasantly adapts to the lips of the vaper. The puff, with any pod you use, is a typical MTL vape.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

To replace a pod, you have simply to remove it from the mod and insert a new one, without even having to worry about the direction of insertion. The refill system is also very easy, now widely used by almost all the manufacturers for this type of device. On the lower side of the cartridge there is a silicone cap which, once removed, will give access to the large e-liquid filling hole.

The only small handicap related to the Xtra pod is the impossibility of being able to adequately control the e-liquid remaining in the tank, if not for a moment by extracting the pod itself from the device.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

The Vaporesso chipset showed during my tests a more than good reactivity and also a good battery management. With the 0.8 ohm Meshed Unipod the autonomy is around 2-3 ml of e-liquid, while with the 1.2 ohm Unipod you can vape about 3-4 ml of liquid before going to refill.

Not negligible the fact that neither of the two pods presented condensation problems, which is no small thing considering the fact that on the market there are still many pod systems affected by this annoying defect. The puff with both the 0.8 ohm cartridge and the 1.2 ohm one is always very precise, linear and free of bubbling (if not unfortunately when the e-liquid is almost completely finished inside the cartridge) or unpleasant spit backs. The puff is quiet enough and certainly very satisfying in terms of vaporosity with both pods.

Aromatically speaking, it seems right to me to say that, being accustomed with Vaporesso to really high performance with all or almost all the brand’s products, in this circumstance, despite the two new pods specifically made for this device, the performances are in my opinion a little below the manufacturer’s standards. If with the 1.2 ohm cartridge I did not find major flaws from the aromatic point of view, but not even performances that made me cry out to the miracle, with the Meshed Unipod the aroma sinned a little in fidelity, presenting a flavor not totally clean and natural. A dry vapor, with an aroma above the sufficiency, but Vaporesso accustomed me too well not to have to report an aromatic restitution below expectations.

TO CONCLUDE

Considering the build quality, aesthetics and perfect functioning of this device, I believe that Vaporesso should work as soon as possible on an upgrade of the Xtra pods, to be able to count the device among the best in its category in 2020. We will see.
